Painting furniture requires one to have patience in order to get excellent results. It involves sanding, priming and finally painting. Before one begins, it is important to ensure that the furniture is one that can lose value after changing its original finish.
The first step involves sanding the furniture using either a liquid sander or a sand paper for about three paints for the paint to stick well. One can use a hand vacuum, a tack cloth or a brush to remove residual sawdust on the surface. The first coat should be applied using a gray-spray-on-water-base primer or a white brush-on, which depends on the size of the piece of furniture one intends to cover.
The primer should be allowed to dry and this usually takes 1 to 2 hours. Once the primer coat is dry, the second coat should then be applied and allowed to dry before applying water-based paint as the final coat.
